Message from AA County Rec & Parks

Bruins,

We’re excited to share recently released guidance from Anne Arundel County Rec & Parks that outlines a limited return of baseball and softball to the area. We have attached the guidance below in its entirety.

Our BBSC Board also met last night to discuss these guidelines and develop a safe plan moving forward. We have some homework to do this week, but we’re hoping to announce the opening of registration for free batting practice sessions within the next 7-10 days. As we get a few of these sessions under our belt, we’ll use the lessons learned and we’ll consider expanding opportunities.

If you are interested in volunteering to coach and throw BP during these sessions, please sign up to receive those communications here: https://forms.gle/gxA3FqpyVT8epEodA

As you read through the guidance below, please be aware that County Rec & Parks officials will be making regular visits to the fields. If it is determined that our membership has not observed these guidelines, BBSC may have permits revoked in the future. Please help us be good stewards of these facilities.

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Team First,

Chad Runge

BBSC President

Anne Arundel County Rec & Parks Message

Based on Governor Hogan's Stage One announcement on May 27, 2020 and guidance from the County Administration please find Rec and Parks guidelines for ‘Return to Play’ below. We are hopeful that with cooperation from all and compliance to guidelines everyone will be safe and allow the progress that has been made to continue through the summer. The target date for training/conditioning to begin on Recreation & Parks and Board of Education fields is Monday, June 1, 2020.

The department recommends these guidelines be used as we enter into this ‘training’ period:

  • First and foremost, ONLY groups/teams of no more than 10 people at any time (1 coach/9 players or 2/8).
  • Only training, conditioning and basic skills training are allowed at this time. i.e.,
  • Cardio workouts, workout stations, drills etc.
  • An entire team cannot be on a field together but in groups of 10 or less (to include all coaches) and spread out on 1⁄2 the field per group.
  • Players/coaches should avoid or limit contact.
    • no high fives
    • no team huddles
    • no arms around players
  • Sideline cones spaced out for each player 3 yards apart. Players should place their bags, water, etc. at the cone and return to their cone during breaks. The player should remain at their bag until they return to the field or leave. Important that coaches reinforce this throughout the training sessions.
  • No sharing of water/drinks.
  • For safety purposes parents should stay in their vehicle or in the parking lot keeping social distance. Not on the field or in the bleachers.
  • We recommend all coaches and players wear a mask until they enter the field of play.

Scrimmaging and game play are not permitted at this time.

Dear BBSC Families,

Please see below for the tryout dates that have been set for the 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, and 14U BBSC Select Baseball Teams that will play in the spring and summer of 2021.  Not all of the age groups have final confirmation of their dates  - we will update this document and publish those dates as soon as possible.

It is mandatory for players to attend both days of the tryout or attend the single make-up day. Emails will be sent to all candidates, by the head coach of the respective age group within 14 days of the completion of the tryouts, notifying each candidate of their result of the tryout.

Clarifications on Dates for Tryouts:

  • Players should attend both Tryout Day 1 and 2.

  • The “Alternate Tryout - 1 Day Only” is the date that players would use if they will miss either Tryout Day 1 or 2.  The “Alternate Tryout” date is intentionally scheduled prior to Tryout Day’s 1 and 2 (for the 9-12U age groups).

Best regards,

BBSC Select Committee
